17th September, and it was the Ford Power at Brands Hatch hosting the United Formula Fords. With lots of drivers preparing for the festival in October, the race had a healthy 29 drivers competing. Lucas secured a double podium to claim the United Formula Ford Championship win with 1 more race weekend to go
Lucas Qualified in 4th, just 0.2 behind pole sitter, Rory Smith, with the top 16 covered by only 0.924s.
A lunchtime cloud burst and heavy rain, meant the track was still wet for race 1. Lucas had a good start off the line and was quickly into 2nd place before the end of lap one, holding off Fairburn briefly, before being overtaken on lap 3. Smith was now almost three seconds clear and managed to increase that lead to five seconds once they had slower cars to lap.
Lucas Romanek never let Fairbairn get more than a second ahead of him, and lap times improved throughout the race, Lucas claiming the fastest lap on lap 19 as the track began to dry.
Smith winning by 5.36s over Fairbairn, with Lucas Romanek 0.599s behind and then a gap of five-and-a-half seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Race 2, and it was a dry track this time, Lucas starting 3rd on the grid. The top three managed to pull a gap, Smith pulling away enough to not allow a challenge for the lead, Lucas and Fairburn constantly lapping with fastest laps. After a safety car incident, Lucas challenged for the lead at Druids, but had to settle for third, only 0.2s behind Fairburn and 0.8s behind Smith at the finish.
It was also confirmed that Lucas claimed the United Formula Ford Championship title, with one more race weekend to go.
Next race will be at Silverstone for the final national championship weekend.
